The vibe was amazing last Saturday at Gamla Bíó. Puzzy Patrol ( an event management company ) hosted a lecture run by Laufey Ólafsdóttir about her Bachelor theisis on “Hip-Hop feminism, the marketing of culture and silencing of a loud minority”. After her presentation there was an interesting discussion from the panel that featured Erpur Eyvindarson (Blaz Roca) Anna Tara (Reykjavíkurdætur and Vigdís Howser (Fever dream). I was looking forward to grabbing some food after the lecture and heading back to Gamla Bió to see the impressive lineup of artists that included ALVIA, Cell7, Fever Dream, Reykjavíkurdætur, Krakk & Spaghettí and Sigga Ey. The gig was absolutely amazing with Sigga Ey the newcomer, blowing me away. Cell 7 NEVER seizes to amaze me but I have been a fan of hers since 1997. Reykavíkurdætur closed the show with incredible sass and girl power. Can´t wait to see what Puzzy Patrol is up to next. For more info on them , check out their Facebook page HERE
Happy New Year everyone. I took a bit of a brake from blogging during the holidays but now I am back and I have a good feeling about this year. I went to Norður og Niður in Harpa last weekend. Oh boy it was such an amazing festival a melting pot of creativity oozing from all directions. Sigur Rós was organizing the festival turning Harpa into a fairy tale land. There were so many Icelandic and foreign artists that performed during the festival. Jarvis Cocker hosted a great talk, peaches as well as some of the most famous Icelandic artists performed “gloomy holidays” where popular Christmas songs were performed in minor to give it more of a “dark” effect. I saw my idol Peaches perform on the Friday and she was AWESOME. Here are some pictures from the festival. I will defiantly be attending next year if Sigur Rós decides to put it on again. Read more about the festival here. Hope you are having a good start to the year 2018.
I have been absolutely obsessed by Jains album “Zanaka”. There is literally not one song that I don’t like on this album. Jain or Jeanne Galice is only twenty four years old but I feel like her sound is something that has been developed for many years ( maybe it has 🙂 ). I have her album on repeat these days !! Last night at Sonar Reykjavík was such a blast. I started out by seeing Berndsen then off to Sing Fang and ending dancing like a wild child at Gus Gus and Moderat. I also made some friends along the way and snapped a photo of some of the festival goers. This time around people were dressed a bit more wildly than last night so I am way excited to see what crazy outfits I get to snap tonight. Friday top picks: Tonight is the last and final night, I for one cant wait for the legendary Fat Boy Slim and the 22 year old rapper from Croydon, UK, Nadia Rose. See you there and I hope you all are happy with me snapping some photos of all you cool kids.
We are Mugison´s biggest fans – with his trusty taped up guitar and growly rock voice – he never disappoints !! This song is great to boost your confidence when going out to face the day. I dare you to look at yourself in the mirror and shout out : “I´m a WOLF? “ I know I am 🙂 Pssst…. Want to find out more about Mugison? check his Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mugison/
