Sonar in Spiceland

Sonar in Spiceland

Sonar was held in Reykjavik last weekend and I feel like the city is still buzzing.  Set in Harpa a venue that offered four different rooms or stages if you will, with vastly different genres to fit every mood and desire. I had a group of friends over from Denmark and we decided to stick to the electro scene. Friday was amazing. A huge highlight was Gus Gus ( NEVER to be missed ) they just seem to be so on it. I have often wondered why they haven´t explored the international market more, perhaps they don´t feel the need to but no doubt they would be huge. Arabian Horse is one of my favorites!!   Lindstrøm was a treat as always as well as the Icelandic, LA based Blissful and the girl band Cyper. The night was coming to an end but not before we could dance to the beats of Danny Brown. He was the surprise of the evening for me, a dark horse if you will. I hadn’t really heard of him before and I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend you check him out if you are into rap and hip hop.     Saturday started out with a trip to the local swimming pool (Vesturbæjarlaug) , or more like a nature spa one of my friends commented. After sitting in the Jacuzzi for probably way too long, we ended the “spa” trip with the sauna, feeling as fresh as ever and ready for round two at Sonar. Ben Frost was the first on our list and after him came the cream of the crop, non other than Underworld. Boy how we danced, laughed and got excited when the concert came to a crescendo with the song from Trainspotting “Born Slippy”. I still have sore muscles…

Norður og Niður - a melting pot of creativity !!

Norður og Niður – a melting pot of creativity !!

Happy New Year everyone.  I took a bit of a brake from blogging during the holidays but now I am back and I have a good feeling about this year. I went to Norður og Niður in Harpa last weekend. Oh boy it was such an amazing festival a melting pot of creativity oozing from all directions. Sigur Rós was organizing the festival turning Harpa into a fairy tale land. There were so many Icelandic and foreign artists that performed during the festival. Jarvis Cocker hosted a great talk, peaches as well as some of the most famous Icelandic artists performed “gloomy holidays” where popular Christmas songs were performed in minor to give it more of a “dark” effect. I saw my idol Peaches perform on the Friday and she was AWESOME. Here are some pictures from the festival. I will defiantly be attending next year if Sigur Rós decides to put it on again.     Read more about the festival here. Hope you are having a good start to the year 2018.

Secret Solstice-Street Style: Day two

Secret Solstice-Street Style: Day two

Photos by : Mathilde Schmidt & Soren Stubkjær The forecast said that it would rain all day yesterday but at the middle of The Roots Manuva set, the sun broke out and some of my friends who know how quickly the weather can change here in Iceland,  were smart enough to bring their sunnies.  Although the forecast for today says it is to rain all day, I will defiantly bring my sunnies just in case. Foo Fighters were as amazing as expected and at one point Dave Grohl brought out his daughter to play the drums and she defiantly wowed the crowd. Yesterday had a lot of cool looking festival guests and we managed to take some shots of some happy festival guests. Happy independence day everybody !!

Sonar Reykjavík Fashion Day #3

Sonar Reykjavík Fashion Day #3

I cant believe that Sonar Reykjavik is over, The organizers have already put the early bird tickets on sale HERE!! Las night was beyond awesome and my main focus was to see Fat Boy Slim and De La Soul, who stopped in mid song to ask the crowd to put their phones down and enjoy the gig – how amazing!! It worked, our need to document EVERYTHING can be scary sometimes. The street style was not disappointing either. Saturday top picks:   Thanks to ALL of you who were kind enough to let me document their outfits. I met so many wonderful people and I hope to see you all again next year.
