Pink or Pastel hair ? This is my story

Pink or Pastel hair ? This is my story

I did a post a few weeks back about how I wanted to drastically change my hair. I have always either colored my hair blonde or, like for the past few years, just let the blonde grow out and had it sort of an ombre color. Fríða and Sóley from Reaglo ehf, were kind enough to agree to do some experiments on my hair , since  I had NO idea where to begin. Both girls are professional colorists so I felt really comfortable in their hands. Unfortunately I forgot to take a before picture but they bleached my hair and then colored it full pink.                           I went again a few days later. Sonar Reykjavík ( music festival ) was approaching and now I had blood on my tongue. This time we decided to go more pastel and I remembered to take step. 1 and step 2 pictures.                                                   I am over the moon with the end result. It took me a couple of days to get used to looking at myself in the mirror and for the first days I felt like people were staring at my whenever I was out ( they probably were). I recommend trying something different. The girls from Regalo also gave me this shampoo from Maria Nila, that I highly recommend. It has been a few weeks now but the color still keeps really well. Thank you so much Fríða and Sóley!!! The girls are always up to some crazy shenanigans and so if you want to follow the latest hair-trends, make sure to follow them on: Snapchat:…

Upgrade your cosmetic bag to Cruelty Free Products

Animal testing is an ugly thing and certainly a dark side of the beauty industry. The European Union put up a ban in 2013 on products that have been tested on animals. This however did not stop huge brands finding various loopholes in the system and we are still might be consuming products that are being tested on animals in one way or another during the development. We as consumers can certainly do something to help, there are so many quality brands out there that are completely cruelty free. We have put together some of our favourite CF brands and where to get them. My - Paulas Choice Sensitive Skincare - Routine

My – Paulas Choice Sensitive Skincare – Routine

This review is brought to you in collaboration with Tigerlily.is   I have always had very sensitive skin, especially when the weather starts getting colder. I have a really hard time using just any product and that goes for makeup too. Recently my skin went bananas , I had hives and dry patches all over my face ( not pretty – so no pictures – sorry guys ). It came to the point where I had to stop using any makeup or beauty products all together ( except for a basic moisturizer) and went full Alicia Keys. Luckily I bumped into Linda from Tigerlily.is and she suggested to me the Paula´s Choice CALM Redness Relief products, to try out. The aim of this line is to soothe irritation and redness with a special formula for both dry and oily skin types.  I have usually managed to keep any redness and skin irritation down to a minimum but I was now feeling helpless and so I was excited to try this out. I tried three products from the CALM line: The Calm Redness Relief Cleanser – Calm Redness Relief 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant  and Calm Redness Relief Moisturizer  My Routine:  Calm Redness Relief Cleanser, morning and night. The lightweight gel cleanser removes my makeup in a gentle way and soothes my irritated and red skin. I am really pleased with this cleanser! It is unbelievable gentle while effectively removing makeup, around the eyes as well without irritation – what a find!!  I was using coconut oil to clean my skin but it felt too oily and didn’t manage to remove my mascara completely. The refreshing gel texture feels soothing and doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry or tight.     Calm Redness Relief 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant, I use the exfoilant every other day….

A Whiff of Reykjavík

A Whiff of Reykjavík

Upon stepping into Madison Perfumery, we feel as if a peaceful, lightly scented bubble has been dropped over our heads. Just outside the window, the ever-bustling Aðalstræti feels worlds away. As tourists and Icelanders stroll past, seemingly immune to the state of calm we’ve entered. In this elegant venue, with its deep gray walls and cozy, modern furnishings, we can finally breathe again. This ability to breathe is quite convenient, as we’re about to interview Lísa Ólafsdóttir, one of Madison’s owners. “We’re all about scents as a form of everyday luxury,” Lísa explains as we settle in for a chat. “We sell perfumes, home fragrances, diffusers, candles, and soaps, as well as cosmetics, skincare products, and beauty treatments.” A small business, Madison’s ethos involves carrying quality products that have been made with care. In turn, the perfumery and beauty parlour deliver these products with effort and consideration for the consumer. Heavy industry, slow perfume Rather than carrying mass-produced merchandise, the store focuses on buying directly from small businesses. Lísa calls the niche and artisanal perfumes they carry “slow perfumes,” as they often take more time to create than mass-produced ones. In addition to serving as an outlet for small businesses to sell their wares, the perfumery also provides professional sales associates to ensure that customers have a good knowledge base to draw from when choosing a product. “We really want to know our products here. We have beauticians and makeup artists who work as sale associates, so you’ll always get very professional service,” Lísa says, gesturing towards an associate. Madison’s beauticians and makeup artists also administer these quality products in the form of individualized beauty treatments. In addition to the shop, the store contains two beauty rooms, in which patrons can receive massages, makeovers, and the like. Lísa especially recommends…

A Taste of Iceland’s Medicine

A Taste of Iceland’s Medicine

According to a 2015 World Health Organization study, Iceland ranks sixth overall in terms of average lifespan, with Icelandic men and women living to an average age  of 82.7. Prominent Icelandic neurologist Kári Stefánsson once claimed genetics and Viking strength are the reasons behind this long lifespan, though Iceland’s high happiness level, deemed third overall by the 2016 World Happiness Report, offers another explanation for these lengthy lives. Here at RFD, we maintain that the secret to a long Icelandic life lies in Brennívan and a mysterious, cumin-flavored, elixir-of-life ingredient. Still, however, we acknowledge that there might be a few more tricks up Iceland’s health sleeve, some of which you can find listed below. Cold, Cold Water Whether it’s falling out of your faucet in Reykjavík or from some waterfall in God-knows-where, Icelandic water is some of the best in the world. Many Icelanders even drink it straight from streams in the wild, a safe bet considering environmental tests have shown it contains little to no heavy metals or contaminants. Naturally clean, Icelandic tap water doesn’t require a ton of additives either, meaning that it tastes crisp, pure, and chemical-free. Drinking a lot of water is one of the best gifts that we can give our bodies, so it makes sense that Iceland, with its high quality drinking water, has an abundance of happy, healthy people. Some Like It Hot Geothermally-heated water also features prominently in the wholesome Icelandic lifestyle. Even amidst the biting winter, many Icelanders meet at the public geothermal pools to sit, chat, and swim a few laps. Iceland’s affinity for the public pool, or “sundlaug” is unparalleled, a fact best reflected in the presence of a public pool in almost every Icelandic town, no matter how small. These pools encourage an active lifestyle, highlight the importance…

Tips and Tricks for Summer Beauty

Tips and Tricks for Summer Beauty

Ísak Freyr Helgason is an Icelandic make-up artist who travels all over the world doing make-up for models and actresses, such as Eva Herzigová and Suki Waterhouse. We caught up with him during his short visit back home to Reykjavík, and asked him some questions. Favourite Icelandic skincare products? I’m obsessed with the Blue Lagoon facial range. The products are extremely effective yet very gentle, which I find very important, plus all the clients I work with seem to respond very well to their ingredients, which is a key element. For a quick fix on the go, I’m also extremely fond of Dr. Bragi Intensive treatment masks, which you can throw on and leave for ten minutes and then take off. Most efficient facial mask? I’m in love with Hydradiance mask from By Terry. I use it in the evening and I wake up with such plumped -up-skin. It also has that ‘wake-up effect’, on the skin so you get that super healthy glow. I’ve gone through a lot of masks during my career, and can wholeheartedly say that this one works! Best tip for cleansing your face? Be careful what you use to remove cleansing products from your face. I use Sponge Chief from Sensai. It’s a highly absorbent sponge cloth that removes products without putting any stress on the skin. Hottest make-up tip for the summer? I’m always super-into the Parisian chic look, whatever season it is. I love nice red lips in any texture or intensity.  I’m currently obsessed with Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in Le Rogue from YSL. It’s one of the sexiest reds I’ve ever come across in a lipstick, and easy to dab on with the fingers to get gorgeous stained lips if you don’t want to go full-on. How to gain a natural…
