Reykjavík Fashion Festival 2017
by

Reykjavík Fashion Festival (RFF) will be held next month and we at Reykjavík Fashion & Design are way too excited about it. Yesterday RFF revealed the designers that will be showcasing this year.

Anita Hirlekar

Anita Hirlekar is without a doubt one of the most exciting Icelandic fashion designers to emerge in recent years. With a keen eye for textiles, Anita Hirlekar harnesses an original vision and an extraordinary sense for fashion. Her garments pulsate with energy and they bare graphics that seem like woolen fireworks flowing throughout the silhouette of each piece. We did an interview with Anita in our next issue and we are simply in awe of what she has accomplished working with amazing design houses such as Dior And Furstenberg.

ÝR

Ýr Þrastadóttir is one of the most talented designers in our opinion and we at RFD have been lucky enough to have worked with her on various projects in the past. Ýr was selected out of her graduating class to participate on behalf of Iceland in Designers Nest( and international platform for Nordic design graduates) during Copenhagen Fashion Week in 2011 and has participated at Reykjavík Fashion Festival numerous times. Her designs have received rave reviews so we are incredibly excited to see what she has in store for us next.

Cintamani

Cintamani is an Icelandic outdoors label that has been around for over 20 years developing and designing outerwear clothing, suitable for the Icelandic weather. They are known for having a fashionable take on their designs and are now launching a brand new line at RFF designed by their brand new creative team. The label has participated at RFF before or in 2014 and are now back this year. They are known for using vibrant colors, inspired by nature.

Inklaw

Inklaw Clothing was started in 2013 by two 19-year-old friends, Guðjón and Róbert. Now only four years later, the Icelandic brand is sending handmade merchandise to locations as far away as Suriname and as bizarre as the US military base in Kuwait. The brand is heavily inspired by the hip hop scene and by taking the key elements from that scene and mix it up with elements of Icelandic nature. The brand is getting major recognition both within Iceland and abroad. At Secret Solstice, Icelandic musicians Auður, Tiny (from Quarashi), and Blaz Roca (from XXXRottweiler) donned the brand. Arnór Ingvi Traustason, aka the hero who scored Iceland’s winning goal at the EuroCup game against Austria, also just instagrammed himself in an Inklaw hoodie. Abroad? Inklaw pieces have been spotted on celebrities as vast as The Dudesons, Manu Bennett, Craig David, and Nick Jonas. They definitely have SKAPA SER SESS in the design world and we can’t wait to see their fashion show at RFF.

Magnea

Magnea is a fashion label created by Magnea Einarsdóttir a Central Saint Martins graduate, established in 2012. The label is known for being highly creative with knitwear and contrasting materials such as sil with a focus on the Icelandic Wool. The label recently did a collaboration with Aurum a jewelry store and created a fantastic jewelry line, so there seem to be no limit to what the label is capable of. Magnea has received nominations for the Icelandic Design Award in 2014 and showcased for the first time at RFF in 2014. We are at the edge of our seats in anticipation for the  2017 line  we are keen to see what happens  next.

Myrka

Myrka is extremely exciting new brand that is inspired by Icelandic heritage, nature and history working with strong details and luxury fabrics. The philosophy of the label is working the materials that create awareness and respect for the environment and nature.
Harpa Einarsdóttir is the designer behind the label and is no stranger to the design world. The FW17 line sounds promising with silver and leather material to resample the glaciers and the silk fabrics to remind us of the beautiful black beaches in Iceland. Harpa ́s design philosophy comes from an attraction to the dark and forbidden, mysticism and her viking blood, she manages to take these elements and bring them into the world of modern and luxurious high end world of fashion. This is definitely a designer to watch out for.

The festival will be held in Harpa on the 23-26th of march and the tickets will be on sale SOON!!
