5 favourite Christmas films on Netflix

December seems to have flown by so fast, I feel like I nearly missed it. This weekend is going to be all about spending time with family and catching up on some Christmas films to light that holiday spirit on fire. Here are my recommendations   1 White Christmas: Oh who doesn’t love Bing Crosby singing and dancing and bringing the cheer? This best thing about this film is that it suits kids from 1 to 91.     2 Love Actually: Ok this is just one those movies that have become on of the great films of Christmas. With multiple story lines where you feel like you can relate to them all in some way. Just a nice hot coco (or mulled wine) and your are good to go, also the cast is truly incredible, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson,  Colin Firth, Liam Neeson, Laura Linney, the late Alan Rickman and the list goes on and on.     3 Happy Christmas: Is a coming of age dramedy of sorts, featuring Anna Kendrick as the basketcase sister that has to get her life together. Kind of refreshing seeing Kendrick in a role like that as I have somehow put her on a somewhat Disney singing – Pitch perfect – happy go lucky, pedestal.     4 Scrooged: There have been countless adaptions of the Charles Dickens tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, but this is by far my favorite. Bill Murray excels at playing the grumpy Ebenezer with his Murray magic and again this one is suitable for the whole family.     5 Die Hard 1,2,3,4, and 5: Yippee ki-yay and Merry Christmas, need I say more? (pssst I hear the Die Hard no. 6 is in the making – it will defiantly make next years Christmas movies to watch – list).    …

My - Paulas Choice Sensitive Skincare - Routine

My – Paulas Choice Sensitive Skincare – Routine

This review is brought to you in collaboration with Tigerlily.is   I have always had very sensitive skin, especially when the weather starts getting colder. I have a really hard time using just any product and that goes for makeup too. Recently my skin went bananas , I had hives and dry patches all over my face ( not pretty – so no pictures – sorry guys ). It came to the point where I had to stop using any makeup or beauty products all together ( except for a basic moisturizer) and went full Alicia Keys. Luckily I bumped into Linda from Tigerlily.is and she suggested to me the Paula´s Choice CALM Redness Relief products, to try out. The aim of this line is to soothe irritation and redness with a special formula for both dry and oily skin types.  I have usually managed to keep any redness and skin irritation down to a minimum but I was now feeling helpless and so I was excited to try this out. I tried three products from the CALM line: The Calm Redness Relief Cleanser – Calm Redness Relief 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant  and Calm Redness Relief Moisturizer  My Routine:  Calm Redness Relief Cleanser, morning and night. The lightweight gel cleanser removes my makeup in a gentle way and soothes my irritated and red skin. I am really pleased with this cleanser! It is unbelievable gentle while effectively removing makeup, around the eyes as well without irritation – what a find!!  I was using coconut oil to clean my skin but it felt too oily and didn’t manage to remove my mascara completely. The refreshing gel texture feels soothing and doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry or tight.     Calm Redness Relief 1% BHA Lotion Exfoliant, I use the exfoilant every other day….

Reykjavík Holiday: 4 Things You Cannot Miss

Reykjavík Holiday: 4 Things You Cannot Miss

Christmas is massive in Iceland and with so many events going on, it can be difficult to pick what to venture out into the cold for. Don’t fear though! Here are RFD’s 4 events not to miss this Christmas season. 4. Gumgumclan JólaHó at Prikið Alvia Islandia is bringing her GumGumClan for a JólaHó celebration at Prikið on December 16th. We at RFD love Alvia Islandia. Her newest CD BubbleGumBitch is currently on repeat in the office and we’re still obsessed with her killer style. If that wasn’t good enough, we at RFD are also all about bringing our JólaHó (Christmas-Hoe) side out from under the mistletoe. Hey, it only happens once a year? When else are we supposed to wear red and white fur? So come on December 16th and catch us on the dance floor dressed as sexy Yule Lads. Check out her newest song with KSF here and check out the Facebook event here. PS: Free Hubba Bubba! 😉 Show is at 21:30 on December 16th at Prikið. 3. “Useless” by Alvara Opening  Get ready to get all your gifts in one place! Alvara’s new project “Useless” goes from street fashion to corporate wear and get this: it is made entirely of reindeer byproducts like skin, antlers and fur. Reindeer are not endemic to Iceland but are hunted in order to keep the population down and sustainable for the country so there’s no reason to feel bad about this project at all. Alvara has found a way to use the byproducts in a eco but chic way, presenting a line of both clothing and accessories. This is a collection you definitely don’t want to miss because as we all know, fur is the weapon of any stylish girl in Reykjavík. You’ll definitely see us there! (Maybe buy something else for your vegan…

Food Market @ Harpa this weekend

Food Market @ Harpa this weekend

Are you a food nut ? A fan of all that is gourmet? A foodie? Well it´s that time again – Iceland´s largest artisan food market will be held at Harpa next weekend. I went last time with my sister and it was hard to resist buying something from every booth. This time there will be over 45 farmers , fishermen and all kinds of food producers – all under the same roof. You can get the chance to talk to the farmers and producers and ask them about their products – you wont find a better source than straight from the horses mouth ( no pun intended ). I look forward to checking out the products from a little farm in Hvalfjörður ( only a short drive away from Reykjavik) called Bjarteyjarsandur. It is a small family run farm that focuses on producing everything from jams and chutneys to sausages and other different kinds of meat, all in a ecological and sustainable way. I want to visit the farm next summer, it´s at the top of my list. There will be an array of different foods – everything from sweets to savory. Who knows – you might find a perfect little treat or perhaps a gift to put under the Christmas Tree.  So you people out there that interested in food or like to consume food or generally just a foodie, dont let this opportunity pass you by. I´ll see you there !!!

Gift Guide: For the Career Woman

Gift Guide: For the Career Woman

Most of us have mentally started to prepare Christmas and presents. I have many friends that live very busy lives, many of whom are running a business, self-employed or full time moms or both. These superwomen have to be very organized and efficient. I put together a list of luxurious gifts and productivity boosting pieces for those busy bees. Iðunn box – So I love Iðunn box, I have tried it a few times and it is always a hit. This box is stuffed with all kinds of beauty products and are simply brilliant for a night of pampering. They are now selling a special Christmas edition where you can find things like: Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water, Pacifica Persian Rose Perfume, L´Oreal Detox and Brightening Pure Clay Mask and OPI plumbing top coat.   Copper Globe – This Globe also happens to be a lamp. For the dreamer to spin around and dream of new destinations.   Amber – Hlín Reykdals quaint little gift shop at Grandi offering a wide range of elegant items from jewelry and other design and gift items. This gem of a shop also sells one of my favorite perfumes “Amber” from Laboratory Perfumes I encourage you to go and check it out.   Glam Glow – This super mud has had rave reviews and not for nothing.  When applied you feel all minty and tingly, then when dried you rinse it off and VOILA your skin feels moist and fresh. I recommend you use it 2 -3 times a week for the best results.   Yves Saint Laurent Shocking Eyeliner – This eyeliner adds a bit of glamour to any lady on the go.   OPI Tickle My France – This is one of my favorite colors from OPI, this creamy pale pink color is so elegant…

The Björk Digital show @ Harpa

The Björk Digital show @ Harpa

Björk is showcasing her Virtual Reality show at Harpa, this project was launched in cooperation with Iceland Airwaves and has been going on since November.  Want to see it? Well hurry up – its only on until the end of December. It takes 90 minutes, is only 2.900 ISK pr person and is well worth it !! Björk worked with some of the best filmmakers in the world, creating this musical VR experience and it is utterly fantastic. She has this knack for constantly coming up with something new and cutting edge and she certainly has come up with a new experience this time around. The exhibition gives the audience an insight into the multimedia album Biophilia, an album that is being used in the curriculum in schools in Scandinavia where the songs are turned into applications that focus on music, technology and nature. Another part of the exhibition revolves around her newest album Vulnicura. This is a very personal album that revolves around her brakeup with her long time partner and how she dealt with it and is probably still dealing with. This is something that most of us can definitely relate to, although few of us have turned it into something brilliantly creative in a form of a Virtual Reality experience. This exhibition has traveled to Japan, Australia and London and now its finally here in Iceland- so hurry up and catch it before the end of the month– you wont regret it. Get your tickets here: https://en.harpa.is/events/event/bjork-digital/
